Controversial P&O Ferries boss Hebblethw
Sky News can exclusively reveal that the
man dubbed Britain's most hated boss,
Peter Hebthraate, is to quit his role as
chief executive of PNO Fairies. Our city
editor Mark Kleinman has the story.
>> Some interesting news about a man who
was dubbed Britain's most hated boss.
Now, this relates to a man called Peter
Heblesweight, the chief executive of PNO
Fairies. And he became one of Britain's
most notorious corporate figures back in
2022 when he sacked about 800 seaf
farers at PO Ferris and immediately
rehired cheaper agency staff. Now, that
became a national uh scandal caused
almost a diplomatic incident. But what I
can reveal today is that Peter
Heblesweight is stepping down from his
role as the chief executive of Poof
Ferris. Uh Pop Ferris is a subsidiary of
a company called Dubai Portswell DP
World and in response to an inquiry from
me this morning. Uh Pop Ferris has
issued a statement which says that Peter
Heblesweight has communicated his his
intention to resign from his position uh
to dedicate more time to family matters.
PO Ferris extends its gratitude to him
for his contributions as CEO CEO over
the past four years. During his tenure,
the company navigated the challenges of
the co9 pandemic, initiated a path
towards financial stability, and
introduced the world's first large
double-ended hybrid fairies on the doc
to Calala route, thereby enhancing
sustainability. We extend our best
wishes to him for his future endeavors.
It's worth recapping this was a very
controversial thing that Mr. Hebwway
oversaw back in 2022. Pino fairies was
on its knees because of the financial
impact of the pandemic. But the way he
went about uh sacking those 800 workers,
many of whom were paid less than £5 an
hour uh caused a national controversy.
Uh it prompted an outcry from the then
uh Labor opposition and in government uh
Labor has promised to change the law to
ensure there are greater protections uh
for seafares. But last October, the then
uh transport secretary Louise Hey called
uh DP World a rogue operator and that
threatened to overshadow a major
government investment summit which took
place. Uh and DP World only then agreed
to participate in that summit after
Sakir Stalmer publicly rebuked Miss Hag.
So as I say, Britain's most hated boss
according to some is stepping down from
his role.
